Case Assessment

Your decision on whether to refer a patient or not for specialist endodontics treatment will require a case assessment, which should be as accurate as possible. This will involve taking a detailed medical and dental history and preparing a good quality long cone periapical radiograph. We can help you in many ways for root canal problems:

Difficult diagnosis.
Diagnosis can be extremely difficult and time consuming especially when teeth are heavily restored and symptoms are vague. Occlusal, periodontal and non-dental factors can often be involved.

Management of the nervous patient.
A nervous patient may benefit from treatment carried out with nitrous oxide sedation. This is particularly useful for anxious patients and those with a gagging reflex.

Endodontic treatment that is technically difficult.
Endodontic treatment can be complex and demanding. It can cause considerable frustration and delay when difficulties are encountered. Sometimes it can be difficult to assess the complexity of the case ahead of time. Here you have to assess your own capabilities, experience and access to particular instrumentation and equipment.

It is better to anticipate likely problems before they arise rather than after, as effective corrective treatment may be more difficult or impossible if incorrect procedures have been carried out. Please contact us at either of our London UK practices.
